PORTRAIT OF A LADY
35cm x 25cm - 2010
Henry James’ novel travels Far East, but our heroine maintains her allegorical resonance: the young and free-spirited woman faces her destiny risking to lose her liberty of thought for the love of a Machiavellian schemer. The white ideogram, which in Chinese symbolises the human face, embodies purity of the soul. Overlapping, is the pink ideogram that stands for female, which lures the lady to subjection. The damsel’s change of nation exemplifies the metamorphosis of times and consequently of the epilogue.
