PALM SPRINGS
30cm x 60cm - 2010
Acrylic, wood, palm leaf
The palm branch was a symbol of triumph in pre-Christian times. Romans rewarded champions of the games and celebrated military successes with palm branches. Christians used it to indicate the victory of the faithful over enemies of the soul, as shown by the heritage of Palm Sunday. In Judaism the palm represents peace and embodies the Tree of Life in the Kabbalah. Today, it remains a symbol of the stereotypical exotic paradise, as the namesake desert playground of California.
