GERTRUDE STEIN'S ROSE

45cm x 52cm - 2019

Dried roses, acrylic, crystal resin

Gertrude Stein’s aphorism “a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose” tried to show us that words have no inherent meaning: By repeating the noun again and again, the signifier separates from the signified, to remind us that every word is just a syllable of arbitrary noise, and that no word exists alone.
